For an English faculty member, Robert Froese has an unusually eclectic background.  He began with a BS. in Geology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and then an MS. in Communications from the same school before getting his MA and PhD. in English from the State University of New York at Albany.  In the interim he worked as a technical writer.  His doctoral dissertation was a computer-assisted linguistic study.  Presently at UMM he teaches creative writing, literature, and film.  Specializing in fiction, Robert has published several short stories and three novels (The Hour of Blue, 1990, The Forgotten Condition of Things, 2002, and A Dark Music, 2006).  He is at work on a fourth novel and is also writing screenplays.  Robert lives “off the grid” in a solar-powered home he and his wife built themselves.
