Machias Schoodic Sculpture Project

As part of UMM's Centennial Celebration, the University is partnering with the Town of Machias and the Machias Bay Area Chamber of Commerce to bring a sculpture from the 2009 Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium to Machias!
The Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium is a biennial cultural event that brings together world renowned artists, visitors and communities to create a Public Sculpture Collection in Eastern Maine. The Symposium is based at the Schoodic Education and Research Center on Schoodic Point in Acadia National Park from July 25 through September 12, 2009.
The Machias sculpture will be crafted from nearby Jonesboro granite by distinguished sculptor Jhon Gogaberishvili who is from the Republic of Georgia. Upon completion, the work will be installed at the foot of “College Hill”, visible from Route One, and will become an impressive landmark near the entrance to the University. Machias has the distinction of being the only Washington County sculpture site for this year's Symposium.

To Donate to the Project:
The on-site creation of this impressive work of art and its installation comes at a considerable cost. We are grateful to the many sponsors and donors who have pledged to help make the Machias sculpture a reality. Thank you!
